Open spaces survey

Picture
At St Nicholas Fayre (30 November 2019), during Datchet's Christmas festivities, the Datchet Neighbourhood Plan team ran a 'Letters to Santa' stall. While children wrote their wish lists for Santa, we asked residents what was on their wish list for Datchet.
This was prompted by the latest revision of the Borough Local Plan (submission version) which was out for public consultation until 15 December 2019. It includes the provision of public open space including play facilities and allotments, on the proposed London Road housing site (AL39). The DNP team was keen to discover what you think of the facilities we already have and what you think Datchet needs. Would you welcome more play facilities and allotments or are there other uses for this public open space?

The Surveys were completed between 30 November and 21 December 2019. Some people completed the forms at the Fayre or did them online, while others completed it at home and returned it to The Bridge.

Summary of results
1. What do you think of the existing public play areas in Datchet?
Referring to the Recreation Ground, 19 thought the area was good or very good, of which 3 thought that dog poo spoilt the Rec, 2 thought it needed better maintenance and 1 each thought it could be improved by toilets/ more shade/ underused areas developed/ need for a crossing at Tesco.
2. Do you think Datchet needs more public play areas?
5 wanted more toddlers' facilities, sand pits, splash parks, etc; 2 more sitting areas; 2 no more play areas and 1 each for 50+ facilities, a cycle track and more for older kids.
3. What other sort of public open space does Datchet need?
4 wanted a Bowling Green, 2 Mini-golf, 14 wanting a range of spaces including 1 each for no more facilities, BMX track, a swimming pool, an open air cinema, boot sales, a skateboard park, etc.
4. Does Datchet need more allotments? Are their other ways to make use of the good quality soil on the London Road proposed housing site?
9 wanted a Community Garden, 4 a peace/memorial garden, 2 a rose garden,  2 wanted more allotments, 1 wanted ‘no more allotments’ and 1 a wildlife garden.
