Getting Around Survey Results
In August and September 2020, the DNP team ran a survey on Getting Around Datchet. A Neighbourhood Plan can identify key movement routes to be protected and enhanced so we asked for your help to tell us how you think pedestrian, and cycle routes through our village could be improved. This is especially important now that lots of us are walking and cycling more due to Covid. We also asked for your thoughts on our public transport services. The survey was publicised in The Link magazine which is delivered to every house in the village and on social media. Here are the results of the survey. We had 64 responses.
We also invited local schoolchildren to do the survey so we can understand the issues they have getting to and from school and around the village, to the Recreation Ground, Scout hut, local shops, etc. Click here to read their responses.

Question 1: Which of these roads do you use to walk from home to key destinations such as the train station, doctor's, schools, churches, shops, etc?

Q2 Thinking about the roads you use, above, please tell us how they could be improved for pedestrians, (eg, pedestrian crossings, wider pavements, traffic calming, parking restrictions, dropped kerbs, more trees and shrubs, etc). Please give the name of the road and location for your suggested improvements

QUEENS ROAD
- Wider pavements.
- We need better pavements that are wider. The pavements also need redoing.
- Be helpful if they were flat and not extremely uneven. Very difficult for elderly
- Parking restrictions, from Penn Rd to Datchet village pedestrian crossing Horton rd by Drunken fish and by doctors.
- I am completing this review from the perspective of a cyclist. Otherwise, traffic calming and more trees.
- Stop parking on pavements, resurface poor quality pavements (some very difficult for those with severe sight impairment and mobility problems), arrange for bushes/shrubs to be cut back (at junctions this would also prove sight lines for motorists), teach cyclists to give way to pedestrians on pavements.
- More shrubs
- More trees to prevent cars parking on the grass verges
- Hedges and trees cut back and in some cases wider pavements
- Foliage cut back significantly so that you don’t have to step into the road to avoid branches etc.
- Traffic calming. Outside current bumps (eg on road by Churchmead School) cars just speed along, eg Horton Road (Green to Tesco) cars only slow down briefly for the speed cameras
- 20mph limit throughout the village.
- Single-lane one-way system in the centre (High Street, The Green, Queens Road) to allow space for wider pavements and separated cycle lanes.
- All of them (Horton Road; High Street; Eton Road; Windsor Road; Southlea Road): 1. Add cycle lanes. 2. Widen the sidewalks 3. The easy and for the Borough cheap quick fix; have the property owners cut back their hedges and trees back to the boards of their property, or further (and most sidewalks would be nicely walkable again. As it is now people following the social distancing rules stepping out in the street meeting or overtaking other walkers are in DANGER OF BEING RUN OVER. Why not done a long time ago I cannot understand!
- Limit the speed of cycles on shared ‘pavements’ or widen the paths and mark out a dedicated cycle path.
- Percy Place footpath to the school needs a dropped curb as everyone including wheelchair users parents with plans do not use the path and use the road. Also more street lighting. During the winter months when after school clubs, parents evening or performances are on the footpath is pitch black.
- Pedestrian crossings
CYCLE PATHS
- Majors farm road to Ditton road add a separate cycle path to avoid collisions
- please make cycle path to Windsor and Slough
- cycle lane to Windsor
- What happens when the cycle lane across the rec finishes in the village centre? needs to better connect to the road layout
- more cycle paths linking all roads
HORTON ROAD
- There should be a pedestrian crossing over Horton Road so kids can walk to school safety. Last year a petition was signed but 3000 Datchet residents but they were ignored.
- Pedestrian crossing on Horton road.
- I’m shocked there is no full pedestrian crossing near Tesco
- some of horton road mainly around the chip shops needs to be double yellow lines and the cycle lane on horton road is useless for cycling seriously
- Pedestrian crossing on Horton Rd and Link Rd.
- Horton Road Keep trees and bushes trimmed back on the reservoir side of the road.
Horton Road Stop cars parking on pavements on reservoir side to enable pedestrians to pass safely particularly those with prams to avoid walking on the road. - Would like to see more trees and shrubs on Horton Road to screen pollution but it's important to maintain visibility, so pedestrians aren't hidden from view, for security reasons.
- A crossing on Horton Road.
- A zebra crossing is needed to access the park safely.
- A pedestrian crossing somewhere allong Horton Road. Re-wild the grass verges alongside The Rec on Horton Road.
- Dropped curbs on Horton Road ('paired' so there's one opposite the other on either side of the road. I sometimes need to take my mother who is an occasional wheelchair user and getting a safe place to wheel her across can be challenging. Also, central refuges, paired with the dropped kerbs, would be useful.
- Zebra Pedestrian crossing at bottom end of the rec towards Tesco’s on Horton road please
- A speed hump between Penn Road and Cobb Close would allow residents to safely exit on to Horton Road. Enforced parking restrictions within 10 metres of these junctions would also enhance safety. My biggest bugbear are vehicles parked on pavements in Cobb Close and Horton Road.
- Horton road - please zebra crossing Linchfield road, link road ... there is always only about cars and the poor kids need to run to cross the street, really not fair to put cars first
- Horton Road why do the cyclist do not use ‘cycle path’ as this cycle path is overused by pedestrians ( which they have right to use) and the whole half mile long is really not to be proud
THE GREEN
- The Green - more pedestrian crossing points, slower traffic, restricted vehicle sizes, priority to cyclists in conjunction with a 20mph speed limit.
HIGH STREET
- On the High Street a pedestrian crossing would be very beneficial. It is very difficult to cross especially with a child.
- Pedestrian crossing between the Manor Hotel and the shops on the other side
- There is no clear or obvious means of improving pavements / pedestrian routes along Queens Rd or High St - they are too narrow currently and there is no room to widen them away from the toad surface. The speed with which some drivers travel along those 2 roads makes the on foot journey more treacherous as they are so close to pedestrians - so traffic calming measures would help.
- High Street - same as Queens Road. traffic calming, wider footpaths, priority to cyclists. Prefer it to be single file one-way. Easy access to the riverbank would be good.
- Wider pavements on Queens Road and High Street. Pavements on these roads are currently very narrow and pedestrians have to walk in single file and be careful to avoid being hit by wing mirrors, also cars/vans/coaches mount the pavement as the road is too narrow for traffic to pass easily.
- Better crossing for pedestrians from Manor Hotel to the shops toward Costa
- Safer cycle route along High Street and into Datchet Road towards Windsor
- A pedestrian crossing somewhere on the High Street and another down by the river. Both roads are very dangerous to cross!
- Pedestrian crossing on the High Street;
ETON ROAD
- On Eton Road the trees and bushes are very overgrown most of the time it can be very slippery in wet weather and too narrow to walk. Around Eton End school especially. Between Eton Close and the school it is very dark - wonder if street lights could be adjusted.
- Eton Road needs improvements for cycles. Too many parked cars and overgrown hedges!
DITTON ROAD
- Bushes trimmed on internal corner of Ditton road into slip road
- As a cyclist the majors farm road cycle path , ends at ditton road could be it be extended to the village or horton road coming into the village (wreck [Rec] side )
- Ditton Road - dropped kerbs, prevent cars speeding,
WINDSOR ROAD
- Zebra crossing needed to get across the road to the riverside near Kris Cruises
- For both Queens Road and the High Street there should also be pedestrian crossings along Windsor/Southlea as so many people travel straight along those routes and the junctions are hazardous with poor lines of sight. A pedestrian crossing across the road to the riverside area would also make a huge amount of sense.
- The whole route from Datchet along Windsor Road to Victoria Bridge needs reassessing. Where it is just wide enough the footpath is sinking into the ditch between it and the golf course, further along it is barely wide enough for one person to walk on, in summer the bushes protrude so far out that the already narrow space is further encroached upon. And night time walking is amazingly treacherous. There are nearly no street lights - across the whole Home Park section all the way to Datchet
- The footpath into Windsor is very narrow and, again, pedestrians have to walk in single file on some sections. This must be very difficult for adults with young children. The entrance to the Datchet section of the Thames path on Victoria Bridge is very near the bend in the road and traffic often takes that corner at speed
- Pedestrian crossing from High Street or Queens Road across Windsor Road would be a great help
- A pedestrian crossing somewhere on the High Street and another down by the river. Both roads are very dangerous to cross!
LAWN CLOSE (relevant to AL39)
- Walkway in lawn close. Cars travel too fast and you have to dodge between parked cars
SOUTHLEA ROAD
- For both Queens Road and the High Street there should also be pedestrian crossings along Windsor/Southlea as so many people travel straight along those routes and the junctions are hazardous with poor lines of sight. A pedestrian crossing across the road to the riverside area would also make a huge amount of sense.
- Southlea Road Traffic calming! Wider pavements. Its very dangerous walking along there, especially with kids as everyone speeds including skip lorries. Albert Bridge is also very dangerous for cyclists and cars as most often cars overtake the cyclists even though its on a blind corner
- Our family lives in the centre of Datchet and loves to spend time by the river. However it is always a challenge to cross the road near Kris Cruises (this is where you need to cross in order to get to the river). There is no pedestrian crossing there, no traffic lights and almost always heavy traffic. Southlea road has speed limit of 30 mph and as no pedestrian crossing, pedestrians do not stand a chance to get any priority there. Also the Southlea road leading to Windsor has a sidewalk for pedestrians, but half of its width is grown with bushes, grass, etc. So even walking alone there is a tad difficult, not mentioning walking together is not possible at all. When 2 pedestrians meet, one have to step onto a road.
- Southlea Rd pavement is narrow between Beaulieu Close and the Avenue and this can be hazardous when boundary hedges are not cut back . The distance between the pedestrian and traffic is not great and after heavy rain, when large puddles form, pedestrians can also get splashed.
- Southlea Road - hedge trimming especially outside number 3.
High Street difficult to cross as cars speeding
SLOUGH ROAD
- Slough Road is particularly bad for pedestrians and people pushing small children in buggies as so many people park on the pavement and so many people use it as a cycle path
- A pedestrian crossing on Slough Road to Churchmead School
- Slough road heading towards grammar schools. Several kids cycle and can’t cross the road therefore need zebra crossings at top and middle of road for safer crossings especially whilst access bridge to Upton court park can’t be used .
- Slough Road - the children are cycling to schools in Slough ( Upton Court and St Bernards) they need to cycle on The pavements to feel safe, however overgrown bushes and cars parked on the path does not make any easier for them ... again cars put first ....
- Slough Road - cut back overhanging branches
- Slough Road needs improvements for cycles. Too many parked cars and overgrown hedges!
LONDON ROAD
- London Road ,too many cyclists using the pavement with no regards for pedestrians.
QUEENS ROAD
- There is no clear or obvious means of improving pavements / pedestrian routes along Queens Rd or High St - they are too narrow currently and there is no room to widen them away from the toad surface. The speed with which some drivers travel along those 2 roads makes the on foot journey more treacherous as they are so close to pedestrians - so traffic calming measures would help.
- Specifically for Queens Road, I’d like to see a restriction of vehicles to cars only. Too many times I’ve had to react at the last minute to avoid the large protruding wing mirrors of trucks / lorries / coaches & buses and even the odd SUV that would’ve hit me as the driver is either more focused on avoid vehicles in the opposite direction on a narrow road or in the case of larger vehicles they are just too wide for the road (you can often see traffic needing to stop at one end to allow the Windsor tour bus to make its way along their regular route).
- Queens Road - traffic calming, wider footpaths, priority to cyclists. Prefer it to be single file one-way.
- Wider pavements on Queens Road and High Street. Pavements on these roads are currently very narrow and pedestrians have to walk in single file and be careful to avoid being hit by wing mirrors, also cars/vans/coaches mount the pavement as the road is too narrow for traffic to pass easily.
Q3 How often do you use the footbridge over the railway between Montagu Road and Green Lane?

Q4 How could that footbridge be improved?
LIGHTING & SECURITY
Lighting x 15 comments
Human sensitive (solar powered?) light needed at Montagu end of steps, ie by sub-station
Perhaps motion-sensitive lighting so it doesn't disturb wildlife unduly at night.
It doesn't feel a safe space as an individual / female alone
I never use it after dark at the moment.
A mirror at the bottom so you could see if anyone is hiding down there,
Safety mirrors
Also would be good to have CCTV (or at least a blindspot mirror) installed there to help make it a safer space.
Maybe a camera as youths tend to use it as a meeting place.
IMPROVEMENTS, SAFETY & ACCESSIBILITY
Modernise it,
It could do with some updating.
Step rises made more uniform;
Even step heights, replacement of wobbly steps
Non-slip surface for wet/icy conditions;
Grips so not slippery in ice
Better grip on steps as that puts me off using it
General maintenance as it seems quite rickety!
Obviously a ramp would help access for push chairs, bikes and wheelchairs but would be difficult to install.
It's a good shortcut route but it's difficult to take bikes or prams across, or if someone has mobility issues. Is there space to include a ramp instead of stairs?
Access widened, bridge widened.
Widened
Made easier for disabled users
Maybe a better accessible design
Pushchair friendly
If we could have a ramp on it to help with bikes and pushchairs
Thin cycle platform edging for pushing cycles on.
CLEAR VEGETATION
Clear the pathway of weeds more,
Weeds cleared
Cut back the weeds and bushes, eliminate the rats that infest that area
Keep on top of overgrowth - this needs to be cut back on a regular basis.
It is OK, sometimes the access is overgrown
Walnut tree at end of Green Lane blocks the street lights on the steps. Laurel bush also blocks light from the corner.
Bridge is fine, just have to keep it maintained
All fine. Just needs gardening
Clear of foliage - how to stop it becoming a hangout
NO CHANGE
I think it’s perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with it.
Seems fine when I use it
No improvement
Footbridge is fine, no need to waste money on
MISC
Be made aware of it
I no longer use this bridge.
Get rid of the rats

Q5 There are a number of cycle paths in the village. If you're a cyclist, which of these do you use?
Q6 Are there sections of these shared footpath/cycle paths which you think are unsafe or are difficult to manage? Please give the name of the specific cycle path and location of difficult/unsafe section with your comments.
GENERAL
QUEENS ROAD/HIGH STREET
HORTON ROAD
SLOUGH ROAD
SOUTHLEA ROAD
LONDON ROAD
WINDSOR ROAD
ETON ROAD
- Just wish bicycles had to have bells!!
- Any shared path is unsafe due to pedestrians wandering into the path or, more commonly, cyclists choosing to use the full available width (including that part reserved for pedestrians). I've had far too many cyclists pass very close to me, on one occasion, I felt the handlebars graze the hairs on the back of my palms.
- Your question 5 is incomplete.
I cycle a lot and don’t use any of the routes you describe. The cycle paths are either not joined up - so cyclists need to rejoin main roads to get anywhere - so it is easier and safer to use roads rather than stopping and moving on and off roads. Plus, what are described as cycle paths are more like dual usage routes often poorly surfaced / maintained and not suitable for more than one pedestrian / cyclist thus making them virtually ineffective - The footpaths which the cyclists use.
- I think the cycle path in datchet cuts off too soon in the village. Ideally it would be great to extend.
- Connection with the road network in the centre of the village when the cycle path finishes
- Area with post to park and secure cycles by the town centre
- As a pedestrian, I don't mind sharing footpaths with cyclists, especially schoolchildren on bikes, because the roads can be busy and dangerous. It would be good if cyclists gave pedestrians priority though, and used a bell to alert pedestrians of their presence. Most cyclists are courteous but not all.
- Some people do not realise the path is for as well as footpaths so do not move
- No shared footpaths/cycle lanes are safe! They should always be separated.
Worst is these days when even, supposed to be sensible, adults bike on the sidewalks. Start with stopping that.
QUEENS ROAD/HIGH STREET
- Queens Road and High Street east of level crossing
HORTON ROAD
- The cycle path along Horton Road by The Rec is a fine example of exactly how not to build a cycle path. It is difficult to access in that it requires the rider to stop and unclip to access it, and to cross traffic if travelling east. It also introduces two road crossings not applicable if on the road, has markings expecting cyclists to give way to pedestrians, has bollards and lamp posts in the middle of it, and if going west brings you out at the narrowest and most dangerous part right by the first roundabout. All this adds up to inconvenience and delay for any cyclist who chooses to use it, so practically no-one does.
- Horton Road - drivers makes it feel unsafe to cycle.
- The path from Ditton Road towards the village is very uneven for cycling on.
- Horton road is useless for a cycle path as for the others they are full of potholes and dangerous for road bikes so I use the road. too many potholes and other hazards.
- Horton Rd at the roundabout by the green.
- Pedestrians in the park using it as a path
- The one passing the car park (Horton Road) needs resurfacing, the camber is difficult to cycle along. Difficult for elderly to walk along too.
- I observe that the cycle/walkers path across the Sabatini land could be exclusively for cyclists as there is already a footpath.
- Cycle path on the Sabatini Land beside Horton Road - children mostly going to Churchmead school race along the path and pedestrians have to move out of the way to avoid them.
- would be good if cycle path along Horton Road could be extended to provide a safe cycle route out of village towards Horton/Wraysbury
SLOUGH ROAD
- Slough Road north of mini roundabout
- Slough Road still requires crossing - at no particularly clear / safe space, especially near the roundabout at Eton Road.
- Slough Road cycle path - when the bushes overgrow it is difficult to cycle past when another person walks or cycles e.g. becomes too narrow for two cyclists.
- Clearer markings across the end of Priory Way as cyclist simply ignore this as a road and cycle straight across without looking or checking for cars (particularly school kids cycling and those coming from The Green side). A cyclist/car accident is waiting to happen.
- The cycle path by Churchmead isn’t clearly signposted.
- Slough road. It needs to be extended to end of the road on the pavement as on the road it’s too busy for young children who use it daily for school. There needs to be a zebra crossing to help cross over whilst bridge through park is not accessible .
- Can you please indicate where is the cycle path on Slough Road or you mean just 200 meters next to Churchmead school. I would even not mention that in the survey and again cycle park in Ditton Park Road - only seen speeding cars
- Slough Road- over hanging branches and cars parked on pavements
- Slough road cycle path unlit at one end and very overgrown most of the time.
- Slough Road - lots of children use it to cycle to school (from Slough to Churchmead; from Datchet to Slough grammar schools) but the cycle path does not go all the way along Slough Road. Kids have to cycle in the pavements and there are areas where vehicles park on the pavement.
- Eton Road and Slough Road both need improvements for cycles. Too many parked cars and overgrown hedges! The pavement north side of Slough Road between Churchmead and Myrke is rarely used by pedestrians so it could be converted to dual use. Overgrown hedges bordering the allotments make it unusable even for pedestrians sometimes.
- cycle path not continuous along Slough road;
SOUTHLEA ROAD
- Southlea Road
LONDON ROAD
- The cycle path ceases and if you then use the footpath rather than the road it becomes very narrow as you enter London Road.
- Stop people cycling on London road paths
WINDSOR ROAD
- The road going to windsor is unsafe for kids to cycle.
- There is no safe cycle path into Windsor
- The whole King Edward VII Ave to Windsor and Old Windsor.
ETON ROAD
- Eton road towards the atheletic centre is also unsafe and the pavements are narrow.
- Eton Road and Slough Road both need improvements for cycles. Too many parked cars and overgrown hedges!
Q7 How could these existing shared footpath/cycle paths be improved? Please include the name of the path and location of your proposed improvements with your comments.
- Where possible widen or consider the viability (if there is a footpath on both sides of the road) of designating one side for cyclists and the other for pedestrians.
- All the cycle paths should be connected, making the area more cycle friendly and encouraging more people to get fit.
- connection with the road network in the centre of the village when the cycle path finishes
- In my opinion, the cycle paths are totally fine for use, however as far as I’m concerned, they are hardly used by cyclists. Yes the kids going to school so but not the adult cyclists. They stick to the road especially when they go out on mass. Cycle paths are a great idea but only worthwhile putting new ones in if we can somehow encourage cyclist to use these on mass. At the moment, they don’t do it’s a waste of spend.
- Shared cycle/footpaths can be a hazard to both pedestrian and cyclist. There needs to be more education/instruction about their use. i.e. Who has right of way? Will cyclists use a warning bell? Which side of the path should pedestrians move to?
- All of them: No shared footpaths/cycle lanes are safe! They should always be separated.
Worst is these days when even, supposed to be sensible, adults bike on the sidewalks. Start with stopping that - They all need repainting and more signage put out so that cyclists know where they are.
- A dedicated cycle path that doesn't suddenly stop.
- Cycle paths are not the solution, better driver awareness of the Highway Code regarding cyclists and stronger penalties for driving offences are needed.
- Extend the tarmac (make it wider) and set a dedicate cycle lanes all along.
- Made wider
- Getting them to use the roads
- Resurfacing may the only option
- Pedestrians be aware the cycle path is for sharing.
- In general, if walking it would be useful if cyclists "always" gave warning, eg bell, if approaching a person from behind
- Not existing paths but there is a need for a cycle path into Windsor via the Windsor Rd ... this would change the village
- Road to Windsor is very dangerous and pavement far too narrow particularly by the Bridge bend
- Widen footpaths along Queens Road/High Street/Southlea to support shared pedestrian/cycle need.
- Improve the footpath that runs between the golf club and King Edward VII Ave for pedestrian and cycling; add a cycling bridge to connect it to the home park
- Wider paths going up High street/Queens Road so safer for kids, very dangerous for young kids to cycle.
- Have one in London Road
- I would like to see the cycle paths linked up and shared paths widened where possible, for example on Slough Road.
- Extend Slough Road to Slough.
- More regular pruning - Slough Road
- Extend dual use path between Churchmead and Myrke. It's used by school children, commuters and "green" shoppers going to Slough. Ditto for the B470 to Windsor.
- Slough Road - lengthen the cycle path so it connect Datchet with Slough.
- Slough Road could be better lit and maintained more than once a year
- Slough road. It needs to be extended to end of the road on the pavement as on the road it’s too busy for young children who use it daily for school
- The hedges need to be trimmed back especially on Southlea Rd. Also the pavement could be dropped slightly on Southlea road for safer mounting from road to path especially when cycling with children.
- Get rid of Horton road cycle path its useless the rest just need to be maintained so its like the road and not full of rubbish and crap
- Get cyclists to use the one on Horton road. Please! Them wanting to go at speed is not an excuse for the rest of our safety. They shouldn’t be riding at speed in our village
- Cycle path beside Horton Road could be widen with a dedicated cycle ‘path’
- When exiting the cycle path from the Rec on to Horton Road towards Wraysbury you have to stop as it comes to an end.
- When the cycle path is shared with footpath there should be the line which side is for who, so no one is just making dance right left... Horton Road ...
- Horton Road. These must be properly policed and cyclists kept on those parts which are reserved for them (if applicable). 'Shared' pavements are a danger due to cyclists approaching partially sighted and/or deaf pedestrians who may step into their path without warning and without knowing of the cyclist's presence. Cyclists must be kept off pavements where they are not allowed. I've remonstrated with two PCSOs in the past over their riding on the pavement...
- Open later access to Ditton Park
- Sometimes change of use from shared cycle/footpath not clear eg along Slough Road going into the village past Churchmead school.
- Most of the bikes you see out on the road during the week are being ridden by people who are using them for fitness as much as getting from A to B, and they are often in training for competitive cycling events or triathlons. The riders are riding to schedules as part of a training program, and are often travelling at 15-20 mph. Shared paths therefore seldom work because of the speed difference between bikes and pedestrians. Also add the number of pedestrians who use headphones, and the poor design of so many cycle paths, and the result is the vast majority of cyclists never use them because it's simply too dangerous to do so. Add also the fact that cycle paths are seldom swept and are not maintained to the same standard as roads and the chance of punctures are much higher on cycle paths.
There is also an important consideration regarding cycling in the UK that seems to be ignored. Countries like Holland or Sweden are often held up as the examples we should follow. The cycling culture in those countries however is completely different to the UK. In those countries it is perfectly normal and acceptable to cycle gently between locations in ordinary street clothing. Pedestrians, bikes and vehicles are kept apart by design and people are used to it, and there are often large cycle parks in central locations where bikes can be left. Cycle theft is also low because the majority of riders have simple cheap bikes, and riders in specialist clothing on expensive bikes are comparatively rare. In the UK cycling is looked down on as something that poor people and fitness fanatics do, and many drivers (and pedestrians) simply regard them as an annoyance that get in the way. Everyone is in a hurry and cyclists are no exception. Cyclists meanwhile spend thousands on their bikes but don’t ride them on short local trips in town because of the high risk of them being stolen, and because they have to wear cycling shoes to ride them because of the types of pedals fitted. A fundamental change of mindset is required if we are to reintroduce cycling to the masses, and this requires big investment to build safe road spaces that separate car, bikes and people whilst still allowing direct travel between locations. Sadly with our existing centuries old infrastructure there is not the space to do this where it matters in town centres, and there is currently neither the will or the budget available from central or local government to make it happen.

GENERAL
WITHIN DATCHET
DATCHET TO OLD WINDSOR
DATCHET TO WINDSOR
DATCHET TO ETON
DATCHET TO SLOUGH & DITTON
DATCHET TO HORTON/WRAYSBURY
- A safe cycle route is one which shares the road with cars, and does not share the path with pedestrians. Unfortunately, due to the narrow nature of the roads around Datchet it does not leave much room for expansion/difficult to give ideas when it is unknown which areas adjacent to roads are private and which are public.
- Dont bother wasting time and money when hardly any of the cyclists use them. The widening at majors farm road is a waste of time as nobody uses it or if it is wideneded travellers will use it to camp out
- At this time with so many road correction /repairs hard too say
- There is no more you can do really the people that drive through the village need to be educated about the rights of cyclists on the road really.
- Need to be wider and separate from the traffic as its way to dangerous for kids to cycle through our village.
- The area that needs cycle paths is the centre of the village, or we need paths that allow it to be bypassed. The fact our road layout is centuries old means this is highly unlikely to happen.
WITHIN DATCHET
- It feels very dangerous to presently cycle around the green in Datchet with my children. It would be fantastic if we had safe cycle lanes to tackle the roundabouts and up the High street.
- London road and Horton Road need them as cars can be inconsiderate
- As many as possible High Street, Southlea Road
- London Roads needs one but it is very narrow along there
- Cycle paths next to all streets

- Improve footpath along Southlea Road & over Albert Bridge to Old Windsor and Windsor Farm Shop through widening; to support shared cycling and walking.
- Between Datchet and Old Windsor to connect with the existing path alongside the A308.
- All along Windsor Road / Southlea - to link Windsor-Datchet-Old Windsor and beyond
- In the Southlea Rd drainage ditch (north side) at the edge of the farm fields from Albert Bridge to Beaulieu Close
- Windsor road towards windsor farm shop and towards the long walk
- I would like a cycle path to Windsor and the Farm Shop. This would connect with the cycle path to Windsor from Old Windsor
- Along Southlea Road to Old Windsor
DATCHET TO WINDSOR
- A cycle path along the Windsor Road leading to King Edward VII would be the greatest improvement - help reduce traffic, improve the environment and improve the link from Datchet to Windsor.
- Thought into a safer route to Windsor boys school from Datchet. Currently the boys use footpaths!
- Suggest pavement beside Home Park by cyclist only!! Pedestrians on the other side (by car parks). Shortest route. NB There are a lot of both on this route
- Yes! A proper cycle path to Windsor either along road or through golf course on the public footpath. Loads of space either side
- All along Windsor Road / Southlea - to link Windsor-Datchet-Old Windsor and beyond
- In the drainage ditch alongside Windsor road (north side) at the edge of the golf course from Victoria Bridge to Queens Road
- All the way to Windsor!!
DATCHET TO ETON
- Slough road to Eton Rd up to B3022
DATCHET TO SLOUGH & DITTON
- Along the length of Slough Road (north side) from village centre into Slough
I would like to see better connections with the National Cycle Path and to north Datchet, the other side of the M4 - No, but Q14 (Cemex), a walking path would be lovely on that route as well.
- Please cycle path to Slough, ( I won’t mention that just footpath on the both sides is in terrible state
- All the way to Slough!!
DATCHET TO HORTON/WRAYSBURY
- Safer cycle routes out of village towards Horton/Wraysbury
Q16 Do we need cycle parking in the village and, if so, where?
FOR
Yes x 3
Yes Somewhere open, visible, and not in a shady, covered corner (to detract thieves)
Yes. But it will encourage thefts like in Windsor
Yes. I would like to see more parking for cyclists. We have a lot coming through the village and it would be good to encourage them to stop and spend money in our local shops and cafes, helping to support local businesses. If the village was more cycle-friendly, more people might cycle instead of driving, helping to reduce air pollution.

Manor House Lane x 1 (near Nibbles)
AGAINST
No x 4
No. It's simply an invitation to theft.
No, this is a village, not a town or a city, the centre of which is old and cannot be modernised, Datchet is unique for this reason
Again I don’t think it would be so much an advantage as most cyclists pass through
No because everyone operates different cycle schemes and you would have to cater for too many. Only place this would be good is near the train station
GENERAL
I think a Boris bike rental would be a great thing for the village. We could look to accommodate these on the village green area

Additional comments:
Comments and suggested locations
- Station Car Park/Car Parks x 32
- Petrol Station x 3
- Costa
- Tesco
- Village Green
- All disabled parking spaces
- Kris Cruisers car Park
- The Avenue
- Southlea Road lay-bys
- Maybe we could include some electric car-only bays in the station car park and also at the recreation ground car park. Possibly done at Horton Road car park too.
Additional comments:
- Not enough demand
- If live in Datchet charge them at home. And walk / cycle into the centre
- It’s a village, not a town or a city. Charging points are usually installed at places of work or large supermarkets. It is not in keeping with the village, most people that use datchet routinely live here so they can charge their hybrids at home
- I live here and charge at home
- We seem to have more electric cars in the area especially Teslas.
- I think the village should be focusing on improving pedestrian and cycle access.
- Not aware
- Not unless chargers paid
Q21 If bus services from Datchet to Slough and Windsor were more frequent (assuming no risk from Covid-19), would you be more likely to use public transport?
Q22 If the bus routes could be changed, where would you alter the route or create a new route?
SLOUGH
WINDSOR
OLD WINDSOR
LANGLEY
MISC
- Slough Station - there might be one already but I am not aware of it
- To the Slough trading estate or along the bath road towards Maidenhead
- More to Slough
- Slough
- Datchet to Slough on a much more regular basis is crucial
- A bus between Slough and Datchet from the Bath Road via Yew Tree Road.
- Need the Slough bus back all the time, not just one a day and Sundays. We don't need a bus to Windsor as already have train and Park and Ride. I have to drive to work ever since the Slough bus was withdrawn. In the past I could take bus to Slough and catch a train.
- Between Datchet and Slough bus station as I work in Slough and it’s been stopped too long
- A direct fast route from Datchet to Slough Bath road train/bus station. Existing routes take too long, so they are no practical.
- I would like to see a better, more regular service into Slough, to link up with the centre and the railway station. I would like to be able to use the new Elizabeth Line when it opens properly and also use trains from Slough to London Paddington, and to Reading/Oxford, etc.
- Not sure but need route from Datchet to Slough so other secondary schools can be accessed like Upton court grammar , St Bernards , long close , ditton academy .
- A stop opposite the park. Just need a route 7 days a week to Slough
- There is no bus to Slough
- A bus to Slough during the day
- Regular bus route to Slough
WINDSOR
- More routes to Windsor at better times!
- I am happy with the current route to Windsor
- datchet to Windsor
- Datchet - Windsor (M-Sa) OK, (Sun) useless. Datchet - Slough When working I used to use the bus daily, now it doesn't essentially exist! (With climate change this was an odd move.) When I get my bus pass at state retirement age, it would be good to have regular buses to Windsor and Slough to use it on!! What has happened to the P1 (Park and Ride)!?? Single P1 Fare £1, 10 Fares £3.50 I think!!
- Tesco’s Datchet to the long walk.
- Tesco’s Datchet to the Castle
- A stop opposite the park. Just need a route 7 days a week to Windsor
OLD WINDSOR
- if possible Old Windsor
LANGLEY
- To Langley? Banks, shops, college
MISC
- Why alter them? Instead start additional routes. To Ascot for example
- I would like buses at regular times
Q23 Do you have a senior citizens bus pass or railcard?
